December 2007 Archives
Many people ask us what life is like here, and how are things different from the States. I'd like to highlight all the differences, but will begin with what's most drastic for us at the moment - the darkness. St. Petersburg is much farther north than most people imagine. This effects the length of days, drastically. As we approach December 22, the days are obviously getting shorter and shorter. Today, sunrise here was at 9:45, while the sunset was at 3:55. The sun doesn't seem to have the strength to climb quite as high as we're accustomed to. No wonder everyone looks so miserable. That reminds me, when was the last time I even saw the sun? I think it might have made a brief appearance last week Tuesday.
